LITTLE HANDS PLAY GROUP
"Providing fun and stimulation to children receiving palliative care".
The Little Hands play group started out of a need to keep our Butterfly Home toddlers busy and to provide developmentally-appropriate stimulation and fun. The play group runs every week morning from 09:00 - 11:00 at the Izandla premises currently with two permanent volunteers overseeing the activities. The dream is to expand the play group in future to include a respite care programme for families with disabled pre-school children. This will free parent up for a few hours a day to tend to their gardens (most community members are subsistence farmers), visit clinics, attend cultural meetings and so forth. It will also give Izandla staff the opportunity to assess the wellbeing of disabled infants and toddlers within our community and provide extra support and therapy where needed.
